One of the best and easiest ways we can affect our health and beauty is by paying attention to what we are drinking. Even before watching what we put in our bodies in the form of food, we can witness startling changes by switching out the unhealthy drinks for the healthy ones.

I am the last one to want to give up my morning coffee, and I won’t at this time, BUT I don’t have to drink it into the afternoon, and I could easily swap the embarrassingly more than occasional soda for some fruit juice and spritzer, or better yet, water.

I could swap out tap water for filtered or spring water, the list goes on.

Green tea is a good pick me up, it is also filled with antioxidants and other goodness that helps with fertility, weight control (belly fat,) colds, and the list could go on.

Chicory root and chaga (which is a fungus that grows on trees) are both good coffee substitutes, even brewed like coffee, as is dandelion root. The side benefit is that they are all spectacular for your liver! Coffee in large quantity is not. (Coffee will also dehydrate you, I try to drink a glass of water for every cup of coffee I take in.)

If you crave the fizzy, sparkling water from certain regions is full of trace minerals, check the source of your water and make sure it is genuine. Those bottles for sale in some convenience stores that just say ‘Drinking water’ is so suspect as it could easily just be tap water at a premium price (not to mention that all bottled water is packaged in plastic. Look for glass, or get a filter.

I’m going to mention gem elixirs again, and flower essences. Once you’ve determined the one you are going to use, place a couple of drops in your beverage (preferably water, but not always water) You could add them to foods, juices, fizzy mineral water…

The key is not in how MUCH of it you consume, but how OFTEN you consume it. I like to do so with regularity. When I am using an elixir or essence for a certain reason, I will take 3 or 4 (or more) times a day, and not only a lot of it, but only once.

Before you tackle food issues, be easy on yourself and watch what you drink.

(and as for alcohol, I do so in moderation. Maybe occasionally a little more than I should have, but not often.) My norm is to abstain from alcohol, but I am not a teetotaler, it’s fun to imbibe on occasion. I am all about being easy on yourself. Smart, but forgiving. This is not an excuse to go out on a bender, if you are drinking alcohol in excess, it is something to look at. That’s another subject for another day :)

What are you drinking? what you are (or aren’t drinking can affect your sleep, weight, cause dark circles under your eyes, make you look haggard and tired, affect your body in ways that we couldn’t even guess. We can’t live without water, but many people only get water as a base in their coffee, or soda.
